However, I soon learned that these Dads were all around me - fathers of my kids’ friends, friends of mine, people I work with, the head of my kid’s parent teacher organization, coaches, grandfathers at the park.
When I first became a father, I thought a lot about…

I was up three times with my son last night – covers all messed up, bathroom run, and a scary dream. I was exhausted by the third time, and almost getting exasperated, until he said, “Sorry I keep waking you up, Daddy.” How can you be annoyed after that?

at first when I began this book project, I felt like I wanted to only show images of fathers doing things society doesn’t expect of them. recently I was shooting a father with his two sons and we went out to his car. he was showing them how to check the oil, and it made me think about my initial reasoning. why should I limit this away from some aspects of fatherhood that many of us experienced? there is as much wonderful value in these moments.

i received this quote in response to the
fatherhoodinc.com book mock up:

to all of you, happy father’s day

in the middle of the night, every night, i take him to pee
his eyes closed, completely asleep – i pick him up
to carry him back to bed
his arm wraps around my back tightly -
some nights i feel gentle pats from his hand

each time, i find i become a better father. each time i want more and more people to see this rapport.
